YOUR DATA SECURITY IS A TOP PRIORITY
Data Wipe Process
To ensure the security and privacy of your data, Tech Exchange follows a meticulous process:
- Data Erasure and Hard Drive Removal: First, we carefully sort devices and remove hard drives whenever possible.
- Triple-Pass Data Wipe: Upon specific request, Tech Exchange employs a rigorous triple-pass Department of Defense data wipe process for company donors. This process generates a certificate of destruction, which is available upon request. The data is overwritten three times, making it virtually impossible to recover any usable data. For traditional hard drives, we also utilize an industrial degausser machine to disrupt and eliminate magnetic fields, rendering all data completely unreadable and unrecoverable.
- Standard 1-Pass Data Wipe: In cases where a data wipe hasn't been requested, Tech Exchange defaults to a randomized 1-pass data wipe process. Although this process doesn't generate a certificate of destruction, it is a secure standard procedure with a faster turnaround.
- Certificate Delivery: If you request a data wipe and certification, Tech Exchange will email the certificate to you within 4 to 6 weeks. Additionally, upon request, we can provide a spreadsheet containing the serial numbers of the destroyed drives at the time of certificate delivery.
Other Data Wipe Details and Considerations
Whenever feasible, we physically extract hard drives for processing at our specialized data wiping station, utilizing professional-grade equipment.
For devices such as Chromebooks, tablets, and cell phones, which may lack removable hard drives, secure erasure is contingent upon there functionality. Tech Exchange diligently attempts to erase data on these devices whenever possible. However, if a device is locked or irreparably damaged, on-site data wiping may not be feasible. Devices that cannot be wiped by Tech Exchange are handled with the utmost responsibility. They are either securely destroyed or sent to our recycling partners for environmentally conscious component disposal.
