YOUR DATA SECURITY IS A TOP PRIORITY
Data Wipe Process
First, devices are sorted and hard drives are removed whenever possible. When data wipes are specifically requested, Tech Exchange uses a triple-pass Department of Defense data wipe process which will generate a certificate. A copy of the certificate of destruction is available upon request.
Data is overwritten (erased) three times, effectively negating the chance that any useable data may be recovered. When scrubbing data from traditional hard drives, Tech Exchange additionally uses an industrial degausser machine to disrupt and eliminate magnetic fields. This process makes any and all data completely unreadable and unrecoverable.
If a data wipe has not been requested, Tech Exchange may utilize a randomized 1-pass data wipe process. Although it does not generate a certificate of destruction, this is a safe standard procedure and has a faster turnaround.
In cases where a data wipe and certification are requested, Tech Exchange will email the certificate within 4 to 6 weeks. You may additionally request a spreadsheet with the serial numbers of the destroyed drives at the time of certificate delivery.

Other Data Wipe Details and Considerations
When possible, hard drives are physically removed to be processed at our data wiping station, using professional-grade equipment.
Chromebooks, tablets, and cell phones do not always contain a removable hard drive. These devices can only be securely erased if they are still functional, and Tech Exchange will make every effort to do so. If the device is locked or damaged beyond repair, wiping the data on-site may be impossible. Devices not wiped by Tech Exchange will be responsibly and securely destroyed and/or sent to our recycling partners to dispose of the components in an environmentally responsible manner. Fill out our pickup request form at pickup.techexchange.org or email samuel@techexchange.org if you have any questions. |
