Since its establishment in 1995 as OTX West, Tech Exchange has distributed over 100,000 free and affordable computers. In the upcoming year, we anticipate an operating budget of approximately $3 million. Tech Exchange, a prominent California-based nonprofit, stands at the forefront of efforts to bridge the digital divide. Our core mission revolves around ensuring that every family gains access to a computer, internet connectivity, and the essential technology skills needed to enhance their lives. Our dedication extends to cultivating a diverse community of digitally proficient residents in the Bay Area, offering them comprehensive access to online education, employment opportunities, healthcare services, financial resources, and civic engagement. At Tech Exchange, we envision a digitally connected Bay Area where everyone possesses the technology resources required for thriving.
Tech Exchange actively advances digital equity by sourcing used computers from businesses and refurbishing these devices at our Oakland warehouse, all while supporting a parallel workforce development initiative. Once these devices are prepared for their second life, our multilingual program staff collaborates with partners to distribute these refurbished computers to the community. Additionally, our program staff offers digital skills training, tech support, and assistance in accessing affordable internet, both through in-person interactions at our Oakland TecHub and via our call center. With a rich history in Alameda County and a growing presence in San Francisco, Contra Costa, Solano, and Santa Clara Counties, Tech Exchange extends its reach to serve low-income, digitally-disconnected families across the entire Bay Area. We are committed to fostering digital inclusion and ensuring that no one is left behind in our increasingly digital world.
