Access to technology should never be a barrier to education that’s why Tech Exchange is proud to partner with the Haas Berkeley Student Association (HBSA) at UC Berkeley to launch a powerful new initiative aimed at closing the digital divide in the Bay Area.
Tech Exchange: Powered for College is a Bay Area initiative led by Tech Exchange in partnership with UC Berkeley HBSA, a student-led sustainability committee. Together, we’re equipping 10 college-bound or current college students with free laptops to ensure technology is not a barrier to education.
This is more than a giveaway, it’s a movement toward digital equity in higher education.
"Digital access is about more than just technology. It opens the door to education and opportunity. When we expand access, we help build a more equitable and empowered future for everyone." - Tyler Hung, Business Administration Student at UC Berkeley
Selected students will receive a computer and support from Tech Exchange, including potential access to digital literacy resources, tech support, and opportunities to share their stories to inspire systemic change.
Samuel Aristondo, Tech Exchange’s Director of Partnerships and Community Engagement, and a UC Berkeley alum leading this initiative, shared why this work is deeply personal:
“Having a laptop in college was crucial for my academic journey. It wasn’t just about completing assignments it gave me access to information, opportunities, and connection. As a first-generation college student and UC Berkeley alum, I know firsthand how life-changing it can be to simply have the right tools. That’s why I’m passionate about making sure other students have the same access through this new partnership with UC Berkeley.”
This giveaway is designed to support students who are either heading to college or currently enrolled and in need of a personal computer to succeed in their studies.
Whether you're navigating college applications or juggling coursework, we know how critical access to technology is and we’re here to help.
